I was invited by Sabri (a fellow seasoned portrait photographer) to do a night portrait shoot in KL city and the model of the night is Shira. It was after a heavy rainfall and the environment was rather wet and humid… not to mention hot as well. We met up around the Dataran Merdeka (Merdeka Square) and chose a rather quiet area, away from crowd, to do our shoot.
Since it was only 2 photographers, I decided to just keep the on-the-go setup light and simple. So the whole session, we used 1 AD-200 with a Onsmo Para 70 (deep parabolic softbox) as the light modifier. I’m always delighted by what this softbox could produce. Its light fall off on Shira’s face was very smooth and shadows are soft too.
As for camera settings, I set it to slightly under exposed for surrounding so that Shira will stand out. Here’s the sequence of it.
Below are more photos of Shira in different poses, all using the same camera & speedlight settings.
Shot with XT4 + XF 35mm F1.4 (1/30sec at F2.0, ISO 400)
